Silk & Clarity: The Art of Chinese Painting Mounting — A Salon with Weisong Li

Mounting is not merely a craft — it is the structural soul of Chinese painting.

From the silk paintings of the Warring States period to the refined elegance of Emperor Huizong’s “Xuanhe Mounting” in the Song dynasty, from the imperial mounting standards of the Qing court to contemporary aesthetic reinterpretations, the art of mounting has shaped how Chinese painting is preserved, presented, and understood for over a millennium.

In this salon, artist Li Weisong will guide audiences through the historical evolution of mounting traditions, explaining structural formats, materials, stylistic schools, and aesthetic principles. Special focus will be given to the hanging scroll format and the classical principle:

“Three parts painting, seven parts mounting.”

Finished mounted works will be displayed on site, offering a rare opportunity to examine how traditional forms and contemporary sensibilities interact.

We warmly invite you to join this intimate gathering exploring the elegance of silk, structure, and artistic continuity.
