Biography:

Donghu Yuan currently serves as the Deputy Secretary-General of the China Pastel Art Alliance and the Chairman of the Pastel Art Committee of the Yangzhou Artists Association. He is a distinguished protégé of the renowned pastel master Hang Mingshi and has attained profound artistic achievements.

Throughout his illustrious artistic journey, Yuan has frequently showcased his work at prestigious international art exhibitions, earning numerous accolades. In 2015, his masterpiece Portrait of My Mentor made a stunning debut at the Sixty Years of Artistic Legacy exhibition featuring Hang Mingshi and his students, highlighting his strong artistic lineage. That same year, his work Watching Over was selected for the Annual Exhibition of the Pastel Society of America, bringing him international recognition. In 2016, his uniquely crafted piece A Child’s World won the Best Figurative Award at the Annual Exhibition of the China Pastel Art Alliance. The following year, his work Abao received an Excellence Award at the same exhibition, further solidifying his artistic reputation.

In 2018, Yuan’s The Rope was successfully selected for the Flourishing Youth National Pastel Exhibition for Young and Middle-Aged Artists, marking another milestone in his career. His masterpiece The Unturned Page was not only exhibited at the 6th National Youth Art Exhibition but also featured in the 8th issue of the esteemed national art journal Fine Arts. Furthermore, it won the highest award at the 3rd International Pastel Biennale, showcasing his remarkable artistic achievements.

In 2019, his 扣 Series (The Buckle Trilogy) gained widespread acclaim at the Jiangsu Pastel Art Invitational Exhibition. Among them, The Reflection of the World won the Excellence Award at the 8th Jiangsu Watercolor and Pastel Exhibition, while 扣 Series I claimed the Best Figurative Award at the China Pastel Art Alliance Annual Exhibition. Additionally, 扣 Series II was prominently displayed at the Centennial of Pastels in China exhibition, celebrating 100 years of pastel art in China.

Entering 2020, The Unturned Page was invited to the inaugural Pastel Exhibition of Inner Mongolia, once again demonstrating Yuan’s artistic prowess. His work A Child’s World was also showcased at the 2020 International Pastel Masters Exhibition during the Jinji Lake Biennale and earned him an invitation to the opening ceremony of the 5th Suzhou Jinji Lake Biennale, further cementing his reputation both in China and abroad.
