Morning Light, Twin Gallop

Morning Light, Twin Gallop captures two horses running together into the light of a new day. “Morning light” symbolizes renewal, hope, and new beginnings, while “twin gallop” conveys not only their shared movement but also the strength created by advancing together.

The leading horse dominates the composition, its neck extended and body driving powerfully forward. Behind it, the second horse follows the same direction and rhythm. Rather than separating the two figures with clearly defined boundaries, Tien Chang connects them through flowing fields of colour, energetic lines, and continuous brushwork, transforming the pair into a unified force.

One of the work’s most distinctive qualities is its vivid and life-affirming colour. Deep blues, purples, and greens shape the horses, while brilliant yellow and soft pink spread across the background. The contrast between cool and warm colours allows the horses’ physical strength to meet the brightness and warmth of the morning light. Scattered drops of colour evoke light, air, and particles lifted by their movement, adding rhythm and vitality to the composition.

Tien Chang does not rely on meticulous description of the horses’ anatomy. Instead, he uses bold, economical lines, flowing colour, and rapid brushwork to express their strength and spirit. Their forms unfold through colour, while the surrounding space appears to move with them, creating a compelling sense of momentum and forward energy.
