菩萨清凉月，常游毕竟空，众生心垢净，菩提影现中 。

华严经中这段偈语说，菩萨像天上的月亮，处于天空之中，既无所依，亦无所靠。菩萨能常处于空，住于空，是因为菩萨的心，达到了真正的空。众生要想成为菩萨，也要做到心无所依，无所靠，让心真正的空起来。

普陀珞珈山是观音菩萨道场，作者运用了非常有个人面目的表现手法，画面上段用“梵青”敷色法平染月空，中断以清灰调子描绘出夜色中的山石 ，下段更是运用拿手的“海水江崖”水法对汹涌澎湃的海水进行了入微刻画，从他的水法上可以看到画家娴熟的笔法，深厚的功力，此精湛技艺真可谓是如擎仙笔，鬼手通玄，画面波浪汹涌，泣鬼惊神。

画家在描绘这一场景时候，观音菩萨的造型和位置，画面构图、色调，气势的营造，以及山石、树木、烟岚等物象的表现手法都作了精心设计，用丰富的多重技法描绘出对作者华严偈语的深刻感悟。

The verse describes the Bodhisattva as the clear and cool moon, always wandering in the ultimate emptiness. The Bodhisattva resides in emptiness, with a pure mind, and the Bodhi's influence manifests within.

According to the Avatamsaka Sutra, this verse conveys that the Bodhisattva is like the moon in the sky, existing in emptiness without any dependence or support. The Bodhisattva can remain in emptiness because their mind has truly attained emptiness. To become a Bodhisattva, sentient beings should also cultivate a mind without reliance or support, allowing the mind to genuinely embrace emptiness.

The scene depicted is on Mount Putuo, the Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara's sacred site. The artist employs a distinctive personal style in the upper part of the painting, using the "Fan Qing" coloring technique to depict the moonlit sky. The middle section uses a clear gray tone to portray the mountains and rocks in the night, while the lower part skillfully utilizes the artist's signature "sea, water, and cliff" technique to intricately depict the surging and tumultuous sea. The artist's mastery of brushwork and profound skill is evident in this technique, creating waves that are both awe-inspiring and supernatural.

In depicting this scene, the artist carefully designs the appearance and position of Avalokitesvara, the composition of the painting, the color tones, and the creation of a powerful atmosphere. The portrayal of elements such as mountains, rocks, trees, and mist reflects a thoughtful design, using various techniques to convey a profound understanding of the artist's interpretation of the Avatamsaka Sutra's verses.
